My dog Smokey is 10 years old and had been eating ole roy for a long time. It was cheap for my parents to buy. He recently started limping really bad and I found out that he was arthritis in his left elbow. My vet gave me some tablets and we tried those but they didn’t help. So my dads gf got him some liquid medicine called finish line. I started doing research and found out about all the stuff he should have in his diet. So I have been giving him Chicken Soup for the Dog lovers soul (senior dog formula) I mix his finish line(2 table spoons) with the canned chicken soup with the dried chicken soup in the mornings. I wanted him to have more Glucosamine and Chondroitin. He really likes the dog food with the canned, but wont eat much of it when it just plan dry. He hasn’t been on it long, but he does have Diarrhea. Is is because of the switch of food. I did mix the chicken soup with ole roy so it wouldn’t be a total switch. Has anyones dogs benefited from Chicken soup? I want his elbow to get better. Please any advice or personal experience??
I just switched not even a week ago. Also i didnt switch gradually witch wasnt good i guess. I just poured the left over old into the new bag.

I have an 11 year old GSDx that has been doing very well on a base of Evolve Senior dry formula. I wish he was on raw diet, as my other dog is, but the reality is it’s just not for him. He will eat nothing that is ’slimy’. Chicken wings are the only things I have been able to get him to eat at least fairly consistently. As it is, even with food he likes, I have to remind him to go eat his breakfast multiple times before he is finished every morning. He is already quite slender, and at his age I’m just not willing to force the issue with him.
Anyway, Evolve has changed its formula. The biggest reason I fed it (aside from the fact he liked it) is that it had 360mg of Glucosamine per CUP right in the food. (Getting him to eat any kind of capsules or tablets is a total nightmare) Now, the new formula has dropped to only 200ppm. He has joint issues, and needs these supplements.
I plan to switch foods just because there isn’t much reason for me to stay with Evolve anymore. (and because the new formula is senior/lite, the fat and protein levels in the food have also been dropped).
Can I feed him a meal of some new food once a day, and feed him a meal of chicken wings the other? The only reason I’m thinking about trying to get him on daily chicken wings is because of the good natural source of cartilage. Am I going to be over doing it with bone by doing this? Would I be better off just supplementing with something else for the glucosamine? Would it be better to feed wings in the morning or evening?
I’m open to suggestions. I really don’t know what direction I want to head in now.
I like Taste of the Wild, and I can get it locally for a pretty good price. It is likely that will be my primary kibble if I can make it work for him.
we ve booked a hol to dubai and now someone has said, well, the tavel agent actually, that i cant take vitamins with me ie cod liver oil, glucosamine, CLA (congugated lineolaic acid-forgive my spelling) – also my husband is on tablets for gout and needs neurofen and paractamol in case he has a flare up – can i take these with me? im getting all stupid scare mongering stories and just want the plain simple truth , thanx
Which cheaper & more effective?. Elations drink for joint health or just buying glucosamine and condroitin?
Also if not elations drink then in what form do i get glucosamine and condroitin?. Pill form, Drink, Or something else?. & where can i get it?.
