Any herbal / alt remedies for canine hip dysplasia?
my dog has hip dysplasia and stiffnes in her joints. she already takes glucosamine tablets and treats for hips. i’m wondering if there is anything else that helps?? are there dog masseuses? the worst part is she always seeks out the cold stone floor to lay on so if i give her a soft bed she ignores it..
lol swimming is a cute idea but she’d probably bite my face off if i tried to push her in a pool, she goes crazy if even a drop of water gets on her head..
btw she’s a 75 lb chow with seloxine thyroid medicine if that matters
thx for the answers i will check them all out!
lol
thanks Josh
i was from New Orleans.

I would recommend taking her to a pet acupuncturist. The vet that I take my cats to actually took one of her arthritic cats to a pet acupuncturist and had really excellent results. I took my dog to the same acupuncturist for skin problems and also had wonderful results.
I would also recommend PetAlive Muscle & Joint Support.
It promotes healthy strong joints, muscles, tendons, cartilage and bones. Maintains ease of movement. Cleanses and purifies the system and improves liver functioning. PetAlive products are holistic, natural remedies that work very well. I actually use the Skin & Coat formula on my dog and have seen a lot of improvement (in addition to the acupuncturist)

I have a 16 year old dog that I have been giving "Dog Gone Pain" for 6 months and it has really helped him. I also told a friend about it and it has helped her dog. Check it out:

If you do decide to try it shop around online because the site vary a lot in prices.
Hi,
Proper weight management is critical for your dog. Swimming is wonderful exercise for a dog with hip dysplasia, because it allows him to build muscle mass without overstressing the joint. As dogs age, exercise remains very important, but you may need to adapt to your dog’s changing ability and mobility.

My Mom’s dog Missy has arthritis and hip dysplasia, and her vet told her one of the best things she could do to help ease her pain was to let her swim. It really does help. We take her to the lake with us all the time and she really does act like a new dog after a good swim. Hope this helps.
There are glucosamine supplements that also contain msm and chondroitin, so I would recommend adding this to her regular glucosamine regimen. Weight management is very important in dogs with hip dysplasia, as well as exercise to build muscle mass. Not excessive exercise by any means, but even just a walk a day helps keep the joints moving. You can actually work on massaging your dog yourself at home……and physical therapy is available for such pets as well. Also, I used to work at a vet’s office and the one veterinarian there performed acupuncture on dogs with joint problems and the owners said it helped tremendously. This method is obviously not appealing to everyone and not "right" for every dog, but it is worth checking into.
Sorry im not answering this question i was just moved from your answer on my question sorry to hear that where are you from?
