For how long can a person take Glucosamine,Chondotroin sulphate tablets?
My 86 year old mom in law has been using these tabs. She stopped after 8 weeks. The pain had vanished. Recently she has started getting pains again. Can she restart if she has pain?

She can start any time and take it for the rest of her life without a problem. The only problem anyone would have is if they are allergic to shellfish, as shrimp shells are a major source of glucosamine. Another possible side effect is increased blood cholesterol and if a problem that can be counteracted with good diet and niacin. She can also get significant supply of glucosamine and chondroitin by eating the gristle from the ends of chicken bones instead of feeding it to the cat… but most people would rather take the tablets or one comapny makes a liquid thats quite pleasant to take.
First, why did she stop?
Also she must be covered under medicare, ask her doctor this question. This Q&A ends up being a lot of opinion. Don’t fool around with health realted issues.
Unless one is allergic to shellfish, Glucosamine Chondroiton should be taken every day .It is a supplement and to the best of my knowledge is not covered by medicare. I’ve been taking it for 13 years. The best time to start is in your fifties. Glucosamine is not harmful.
They are not pain killers, so they have to take continuously for months to see the effect. They can be taken for long terms.
Don’t mess around with health issues. Ask a qualified doctor.
