Glucosamine: Can I take my dog's tablets or do I need one specific to humans?
Hi I noticed that glucosamine online is way cheaper for dogs than it is for humans. Is there a significant difference in the glucosamine pills that dogs take than what humans take? I just purchased the dog pills at this site:

Thanks for all those that respond constructively.

A lot of medications are the exact chemical make-up. It’s what they add different such as the liver flavor and the doses, which can easily be looked up to find the appropriate dose for yourself. But FDA regulations are more stringent for human medications than pets. SO just to be safe I would take human medications and not your pets.
I don’t know about whether they are the same, but I wouldn’t take anything for animals.
I’d assume the dosages are different when it comes to human & animal medications.
Usually dog supplements are chelated so that the dog can absorb them easily. I do it the other way around, I give my dogs vitamins and supplements that I purchase for me, as long as they are chelated I know that my dog is getting what she needs!
I know alot of people that take antibiotics and such that were intended for canines. I personally wouldnt trust what any one says on Yahoo! Answers…I would do personal research, afterall it is your life.
no u cant.
No glucosamine reacts differently in humans than in dogs

Take the bottle to your local pharmacy and show it to the pharmacist. He will be able to tell you.
actually, at a higher milligram strength, "human" glucosamine is cheaper than "dog" glucosamine. the human dose is usually 500mg twice daily.
the glucosamine itself is the same in human products and dog products. what makes the product different is the added ingredients such as beef or pork liver in the product that you have.
Some of the formulations for glucosamine are the same BUT some of the ones made for pets contain ascorbic acid. They are sometimes also made a little more desirable in flavor for pets.
Many medications that are given to dogs are the exact same for humans and come from human pharmaceutical companies. Dosing may vary but some are the same. Some dogs have to use human medication.
Best advice is to go to a human pharmacist with the bottle and ask.
Good Luck!
