we had a dog who had problems with her joints and we fed her these from a health food shop and she had no bad effects, our vet said to get the higher strength ones, check with your vet first but i am sure it will be OK, best of luck

I would confirm with your vet before giving him human dosages, especially for a small dog. I use Zukes Hip Action treats which have glucosamine and chondrotin. My dogs have been on it for years. You can determine the dosage your doctor recommends and then give the appropriate amount of treats. zukes.com. But there are a number of dog glusocamine tablets you can get.

I give my golden who is 8 glucosamine. IT is the brand G3 it works wonders. people glucosamine could harm your dog and make him sick. I think its time you switched vets. because it does help and my golden is more active and enjoys going for walks again. IF it was really causing your dog that much pain your vet would have recommend x-rays if they were a good one or told you a better dose of such. It depends on brand and form in which your dog recieves it to how much is contained in it. I give the beef liver chews its very much like a chew treat.Also keep in mind that it can take up to a month or more to be effective fully. Also many require a higher dose at first. MIne had to take two tablets a day for a month then he had to remain on one a day.

YES Glucosamine is good for your dog. Being a small dog you should call your vet to ask how many mg is best for your dog, probably 500mg would be ok, again ask your vet. But yes, people version is fine for your dog your vet will be happy your doing it. It helps a lot. I have 7 dogs and 2 of them are over 10 and I give them to my dogs as they both have arthritis and it helps a ton!! Good luck and good job for trying to keep your old friend comfortable!!!!!

Don’t give your dog any kind of drug/supplement without talking to your vet. Saying that a dog dose is too small is VERY different from saying a human dose is safe. If it was an issue of doasage he would have told you to give the human version. It may be OK, but you really need to talk to your vet. Is it really worth risking your dogs health when all you need is a simple call?

ADDITION: Not needing a prescription doesn’t make it safe. People way underestimate the power of supplements sometimes.

Why don’t you just order them from a pet catalog. You can get the chewables so you don’t have to mess around with a pill. They don’t need a vet script. The container will tell you the proper dosage for the weight of your dog. We use Snovi-MSM for our Bulldog. Look online for Foster & Smith, KV Vet Supplies, Omaha Vaccine Co., Pet Meds, etc. There arae many brands to choose from. Good luck

Absolutely, but the dose really should be discussed with your vet. Not knowing the dosage (mg) makes it impossible to even provide a suggestion.

I am almost certain the human pills are less expensive than the dog pills too.

You should contact your vet and have her prescribe a dog version of glucosamine, or at least tell you how many mg’s of the human version to administer.
