I have a 12 yr old female staffi/sharpei mix, who isn't doing so good.?
She has all of the symptons of osteoarthritis, and we have her on glucosamine. Yesterday morning, she stopped eating and drinking, and started crying from pain. We brought her to the vet. They checked her blood, and said that everything was fine, and prescribed her deramaxx, for her arthritis. Today she ate a little bit of chicken strips, but still will not drink. She had a pee and a poop this morning, with me holding her butt up, but when she got back to her bed,she has not moved. I have been force hydrating her with broth and a spoon. Any ideas on how to get her to drink, would be most appreciated, and if you can any suggestions, as to why she stopped eating and drinking, that would be nice too.
thanks

Sosad. The only suggestion I have is to try pedialite pops, or ice. We had a sick bulldog and he would not drink but he wold lick the pops if I would hold them for him, and once he was up he would lick ice cubes in a bowl. Good luck, and go back to the vet if she gets any more lethargic. It does not take them long to get really bad.
Usually, you can mix a doggy’s favorite treat with water. Spoon-feed it to her, and continuew to do so as much as possible. Sounds as if your doggy is really sick. If she does not drink within 24 hours, you’re in trouble! Contact your vet and they will be able to hydrate your dog through IV. Hopefully, it won’t come to that.
I had a poodle with arthritis and it got so bad that I couldn’t let her suffer anymore. You can get better pain pills for her. Glucosamine is great to build up cartilage but that takes a few years being on it.I know because I took it and it saved my knees. The only thing u can do because of her age is keep her comfortable. When u can’t do that anymore then u know what you’ll have to do.Good luck
