should i put my dog down?
i have a dog who is 13 years old. she can barely walk with a torn ACL and terrible athritis. we have to carry her outside to use the bathroom because she cant walk by herself. she;s riddled with lumps which could be cancer including a lump in her throat. but shes eating fine and drinks all the time though she’s always panting. she still wags her tail and barks at the cat and is whines iwith happiness when i come home. i can only give her aspirin and glucosamine pills for pain. i love my dog so much and i guess wat im asking is should i put her down? ive been struggling with this decision because i feel like im murdering her, killing her and she wont even know its comming. it seems cruel but i can tell shes hurting. what should i do?

It’s called letting go with love.
My father stated that "where there is no quality of life, there is no life" when he asked us to stop treating him for cancer. Either the cancer was going to kill him, or the treatment was going to kill him by shutting down his kidneys.
Your dog is in such severe pain that the aspirin and glucosamine don’t help her. She loves you and the cat. We cannot make the decision for you. If it were my dog, I’d take her to my vet and hold her while a shot took her pain away and let her ease on to the rainbow bridge. I’d tell her about all the wonderful times I loved having with her as I held her knowing that her final memory was my loving voice and my loving caress.
You need to visit the rainbow bridge websites. Just google rainbow bridge and you’ll find dozens. Some have support groups. Some have the poem and some have videos. They help.
If you can find it in your heart to let her go, you can honor her by writing the stories of your best times with her. You can find one of the free websites and post them and photos of her to honor her and help others through this very diffcult decision. -!-
put her down
It is not cruel to put a sick dog down. Take her to the vet and talk with them before you make a decision.
I know it will break your heart because I had to do it to one of my dogs, but you just can’t let them suffer. You need to be brave and do the right for the dog
it is always hard to part with our beloved pets. you must put her first and not just hang onto here because it is painful for you. speak to your vet and they will advise you if your dog still has quality of life. my rottie was verymuch like your dog, if they cannot getup and walk or do their business it is time for you to think of her life and not your pain.
dogs dont show us their pain either and you could be making her suffer and not know it.
pls speak to your vet and make a decision. good luck and sorry for your dogs pain.
I know it hurts, and it will cause you about a year to let time heal it and forever grief until you see her again. But think about how much pain she is in. I would consult a vet before making any final decisions. Go with your heart on this one not your head.
bring her to the vet
you should never feel right when putting an animal companion down no matter how many you’ve had to. It really should never become that easy because then you know there’s something wrong. It’s a good thing you are deliberating over this because it means you care substantially for this animal. As far as putting her down goes, I would say as long as she still recognizes you she cares immensely for you. I cant make that decision for you but with a torn ACL and the arthritis of a 13 year old, the aspirin isn’t going to do much for her. If you want to continue with her I think you should maybe look into your glucosamine pills. They are not really going to do anything without sulfate. Many glucosamine supplements now contain chondroitin sulfate which helps with blocking the enzymes that break down the cartilage. It is the reason how the glucosamine can even be absorbed, so if the glucosamine pills you are giving her don’t have this, then the aren’t hardly being effective.
It is still up to you whether or not you want to put her down. If you have the time and love and attention to give to her old age i would say keep trying with her. But if its getting overwhelming for the both of you, its time to alleviate the pain… for the both of you
My dog had cancer and I put her down, I didn’t want her to be in pain. It’s really best for them, it was really hard for me…
