My 14 year old black lab is lame in her hind legs. It started about 1 year ago very mildly and it has gotten progressively worse in the last two days (of course, a holiday weekend and today seems to be the worst I have seen). I have been helping her outside to urinate and poop, but she doesn’t understand that’s why I’m there, even when standing in the middle of the pooping section of the yard. She just starts to sniff around and then looks at me like, excuse me, I need to go so please leave. I’ve been elevating her back legs (very slightly) with a towel wrapped around her mid-section and she pulls along with her front legs. She has incredible front end/body strength. She seems happy, eating and drinking well. She even stretches and crawls across the living room floor to get to her toys and plays with them. She is on glucosamine and an aspirin 325mg twice a day. My only issue and problem is the cost of a vet visit for pain medications. Our guinea pig had a health problem and exhausted our funding for just about everything. I don’t want her to hurt and/or suffer. She hasn’t given me the "sign" that she’s done with this and ready to leave us yet. Do you have any advice for OTC medications I might be able to give her to ease her pain and keep her from hurting?

i have a dog who is 13 years old. she can barely walk with a torn ACL and terrible athritis. we have to carry her outside to use the bathroom because she cant walk by herself. she;s riddled with lumps which could be cancer including a lump in her throat. but shes eating fine and drinks all the time though she’s always panting. she still wags her tail and barks at the cat and is whines iwith happiness when i come home. i can only give her aspirin and glucosamine pills for pain. i love my dog so much and i guess wat im asking is should i put her down? ive been struggling with this decision because i feel like im murdering her, killing her and she wont even know its comming. it seems cruel but i can tell shes hurting. what should i do?

We have a 12 y/o Choc Lab and the last few days he had been "dry heaving." He has not thrown up. I have not seen his stool. He takes a few bites of his Iams dog food, about 20% of his normal intake. Drinks water fine. Seems to be in good spirits. Petting him tonight I found a 3cm fluid filled cyst within the floppy part of his ear.
I am a doctor and I need a vet. I will be seeking one tomorrow. Just looking for any ideas.
I am worried that he is developing a gastric outlet/bowel obstruction.
He does get a doggy aspirin ( I will be stopping) glucosamine and a vitamin.

Thanks,

Rick MD

Are human tablets OK? If so what is the dose for ongoing treatment or would plain fish oil be an alternative? My dog gets sore when he over does it and it is cold and damp. What drugs do vets use for pain relief in dogs? Can I give aspirin? I have given him a heat pack tonight but I just wish he could tell me where to put it!
