I got her for my 8th birthday and I use to spend all my allowance on treats for her so she is over weight but here is a list of other problems she is having or has had:
1. Not even at 1 years old, before she was suppose to go in and get fixed she got out of the yard and met a beautiful golden retriever and got pregnant and ended up having 13 puppies(they all lived and it was nuts), they were all very cute and we ended up even keeping one. However, I know that dogs who have puppies do not live as long so that was the first mistake. We got her fixed right after that.
2. Then like I said before I always gave her treats and well she loves food. We tried cutting back on how much she was getting and so now she only gets one cup 2 times a day. But she gets really cranky.
3. She has these huge tumor looking things coming out of her sides about the size of softballs and the vet says they are just fatty tumors but they make her very uncomfortable and she has a hard time just laying down.
4. She has started having these coughing like fits where it sounds like she is trying to get something out of her throat but shes not. My mom says its congestive heart failure but I just wish there was something I could do to make her more comfortable.
5. She is not having a hard time walking at all considering how much weight she is carrying but she breaths heavy all the time.
I just hope someone can help me figure out what to do. I want to make her more comfortable but I just have a feeling its getting to the time when I might need to put her down and I just don’t know if I am ready for that yet. Then I also want to know if it would hurt if I started giving her glucosamine tablets, the only ones I have are my moms but i read that there is no difference between those and the dog ones. Also what about Flaxseed or omega-3’s? I know that in humans those are suppose to help heart health but could they help with that coughing? I hope someone can help… I know its kinda a long post… thanks!!
ok so i would just like to add the fact that the whole treat deal was when i was young…. for the past 4 years she has been on a diet, like i said she gets a little less than a 1 cup a food in the morning and at night ( that is what the vet told us to give her) and its not like i can just starve her to get her to loose weight. and then everyday I do take her outside and walk her around and play with her for about 1/2hr any longer and she just gets worn out. And instead of buying big treats we bought a fancy-type food and only give her one piece, so she thinks she is getting something special but its not really much at all.
