She’s a 12 year old collie / black lab / whippet cross breed. Generally in good health but she’s been slowing down for a year or two now, and is often stiff and sometimes struggles to climb on the sofa.
My friend (who is a trained Vet) advised me to use Glucosamine Sulphate, Evening Primrose Oil, and a Multi Vitamin supplement. He also advised me to use the Holland & Barrett versions as they are much cheaper!
The trouble is, I’ve bought the GS in 1000mg tablets, the EPO in 1000mg tablets, but my friend is away for a couple of weeks, so I’m a little bit stuck.
I hope someone out there can help me…..!
My fifteen month old female rotweiller was recently diagnosed with hip dysplasia. If anyone has any suggestions on how to help her recover from this condition. I don’t want her to have surgery as she is too young & it may not work. I have put her on glucosamine tablets and starting an anti inflammatory injections this week. It is only a mild case and the vet said it can be controlled and not get worse. We put her in our pool and let her swim as there are no hydrotherapy places around our area. I have spoken to so many vets and they all say different things. Surgery is not an option right now as it is not that bad. Although she is limping and struggling to get up, she is still able to walk. I walk her every night and massage her. People have told me they have had to put their dog down but there is absolutely no way I could or would do that. She is literally my best friend. Please help
It was actually our neighbors that gave her to us as they were going to sell her. They bought her from a top breeder- or so they say- for their young daughter without even researching about these dogs. Once she started growing and they realized how big she would become, they no longer wanted her. So I took her. She has now become a family member and I can’t even tell you how much I love her and have cried over seeing her like this.
She can get up but not like she us too, obviously. It takes her a while to walk up stairs but we have been recommended not to let her walk up large flights of stairs. I have taken her to an animal hospital as well as three vets and all have said it’s not serious enough for surgery. I just want her to get better.
And I never said I wasn’t willing to get her surgery. I have the money. I wouldn’t get an animal if I wasn’t able to pay for medical costs. I’ve been told by several vets that it’s not that seriousas yet.
There is absolutely NO WAY in hell I’m getting her put down. She can still run and jump and I will do whatever I possibly can to help her.
Pretty sure I said I’d get her the surgery. Open your eyes and read what I said before you call me selfish buddy. FOUR vets have told us that she does not need surgery as she can still run and jump. So don’t call me selfish. I put my dog before
Myself actually. And I do have the money. If surgery was 0,000 I’d pay it.
Sasha is my 7 year old female Husky mix. Lately she’s been having diarrhea. She and her buddy (a 6 year old female German Shepherd) have been eating the same kibble for a long time now. A few weeks ago, we started giving them 2 glucosamine tablets per day (2 tablets for 25-50lb dogs… she’s about 65lbs, but we wanted to see how it went before we gave her 3). It hasn’t negatively effected the German Shepherd. It’s only in the past few days that she’s gotten diarrhea, so I’m not sure that it was the glucosamine. We’re taking Sasha to the vet tomorrow… what could be wrong with her? Thanks!
The glucosamine is for her joints. In the past couple of years, she’s been getting pretty stiff.
1 tab for 11-24lb dogs
2 tabs for 25-50lb dogs
3 tabs for 51-75 lb dogs
My husband and I think my teacup Maltese who is almost 9 months old, found a 200mg pill of Pyridium that my husband must have dropped on the floor. I take it for Interstitial Cystitis. She threw up twice, one right after the other, and got the majority of it out of her system. I’m still expecting to see yellow/orange urine on her puppy pad though. We started researching online to see if we needed to rush to a vet and found some interesting information that made me feel a little better. Some vets actually do use Pyridium and others say ‘no way.’ I read that it’s controversial to give dogs bladder meds that us people use like "glucosamine, Durlactin, pyridium, and urinary antispasmodic tablets containing methylene blue dyes. (They are) sometimes used for either their coating-soothing properties or anti-inflammatory properties." But, why is it controversial? It makes sense for an animal to need these meds for the same reason we need it, but has there really not been enough studies on the dog’s urinary tract system to know? If not, it’s rather embarrassing for researchers… I thought I might run into someone here who can give me more answers. Should I be worried or relieved?
The dye in Pyridium is orange, much like Iodine.
Thank you so much April. I am going to assume that since she is acting fine she is okay. Hubby and I are going to be even more careful than we were before about my meds because I don’t want her eating any of the others. It could possibly kill her so I’m thankful it was only a Pyridium.I won’t know for sure though until I see it in her urine.
She hasn’t peed in over an hour because she took a nap in my lap. I’m just trying to keep her active with plenty of water so she can start to get it through and out her system.
