Why is the color of my dogs fur Faded?
I adopted her when 10 years ago for my parents. So she is about 10 or 11. An old lady now. We all just love her to pieces. She has had her shots, She has been in my parents care tho and I think she is lacking some things. I take her to the groomers every once in a while. I noticed her black fur has faded to brown and she is arthritic. I spent a 100 bucks on glucosamine tablets for her from Petco but what causes the fading fur? I know she is lacking vitamins, but which ones? What can I feed her to fix it?
He Fur has faded to a copper brown.

I would ask the vet next time you see him/her about anything lacking in her diet….just in case.
Other than that, age can dull a coat and you’re certainly there in that part of the beloved pet journey.
Sun can and will lighten fur just as it lightens our own hair, only not so much, I think. …… A dog who spends a good deal of time soaking up the sun will certainly show signs of sun bleaching. My Border Collie had a lovely red sheen one summer.
There are spray on products made for horses that protect the coat from the sun. I use them on the doggies for the same purpose. I believe some Wal-Mart stores even carry it ("Show Sheen"…or something like that).
Peace.
It may be age, possiby sun bleaching if she is outside a lot.
She’s just getting old.
its probably age, dogs fur color starts to fade when they get older
Some dogs just age gracefully.
Best of Luck.
It’s just like when you get older and your hair color fades.
She is probably fine.
Did you know the sun fades fur.
It is most likely just OLD AGE; that happens to lots of dogs, they’re hair starts fading or changing color and even start to get some gray hairs too! but you shouldn’t worry to much.
and you don’t have/need to buy anything for it.
good luck!
Sun bleaches a black dogs coat and will give it a brown sheen. It’s not uncommon in black Danes. You could use a sunscreen for the coat -they make it for horses and dogs.
If she has a long coat maybe more frequent brushings to get rid or the old/dead coat.
What glucosamine product are your giving? It’s not going to cause her coat to change color. You can pick up a similar product at any health food store for about 1/2 the price but a better quality.
Dog food has plenty of vitamins already and by supplementing you throw it out of whack. You might want to change her diet, look for something for an older dog because those kibbles usually have glucosamine right in the food.
And if you can, titer test so she doesn’t have to get any more shots.
Sounds like old age to me. My beagle is 13 and her once brown and black face is now mostly brown and white.
